2024 Competition Ratios have been released by the UK Foundation Programme Office and are now included on all the competition ratio pages on the site.

This is the first year that allocation to Foundation Programme places was via the new Preference Informed Allocation (PIA) process. Under this new method any Foundation School with less places than applicants ranking it their first choice would see allocations made on the basis of a random number, rather than applicants’ scores.

In 2024 5 foundation schools had competition ratios of more than 1:1 – London, North West, Oxford, Severn and West Midlands Central.

Scotland had 933 applicants ranking it first in their preferences, with 934 posts available, this is rounded up to a competition ratio of 1:1.

The remaining 11 Foundation Schools had competition ratios less than 1:1 – everyone ranking one of these Foundation Schools their first choice will have been allocated to it.

The most competitive Foundation School, with a competition ratio of 2.89:1 was the London Foundation School. The least competitive was West Midlands North, with a competition rain of 0.37:1.

Further information can be found on the Competition ratio pages where you can find competition ratios by year and competition ratios by foundation school. The 2024 data can be seen on the 2024 Competition Ratios page.
