Applications to the 2026 Specialised Foundation Programme in England will once again be split between posts managed by University Medical Schools, and posts managed by the national PIA system.

In England one-third of the available Specialised Foundation Programmes will be ring-fenced for medical schools to appoint directly from their own student body. You should discuss the application process with your medical school.

If you do not wish to be recruited to a SFP in the same region as your medical school – or of you graduated from a non-UK medical school – you can apply for the remaining SFP posts via the Oriel Preference Informed Allocation (PIA) process.

The process may vary across the UK.
